        (A report from the Western Sydney Regional Council.)

        Charter

        1. The Western Sydney Regional Council under the Regions Ordinance 1995 has continued its functions for another year since its last Report.

        2. Funds received from Synod were distributed to Parishes and other ministries via grant applications and according to the Diocesan Mission and regional ministry strategies. Over $500,000 was so allocated during 2004.

        3. The principal Office of the Council is located at the Anglican Church Office - (Bishop of Western Sydney) 191 Church Street, Parramatta 2150 (PO Box 1443 Parramatta 2124).         5. The following chart sets out the structure of the Council and its various committees.

        Activities

         

        6. The Council meet on 5 occasions during 2004 with these committees and Taskforces meeting where possible.

        7. Financial support was given to Parishes and other organisations in supporting workers. The practice in the past of continuing to give a gift to those candidates from the Region in fulltime training for ordained ministry has continued and many parishes are generous with their gifts.

        Grants and loans

        8. The list of Grants and Loans made are included in the Annual Accounts tabled at Synod.

        Highlights

        9. The Council continued its policy of receiving reports on mission activity around the region including church plants.

        10. A Regional Conference was planned and held in June at Kellyville on ‘Maintaining Momentum for Mission’. This featured a DVD produced in the Region, which was for use in parishes. It included 3 short studies from the Archbishop. The keynote address was given by Philip Jensen.

        11. The Regional Council endorsed a proposed Regional Men’s Conference for 2005 covering areas not usually covered by the Katoomba Conventions.

        12. The Region also supported:

        • The amalgamation of the ecclesiastical parishes of Kenthurst and Dural in to the Dural District Parish
        • A five year extension of the Regions Ordinance maintaining St John’s Parramatta as a Provisional Cathedral, and
        • The transfer of the Western Regional Councils’ property at Oakhurst to the Parish of Oakhurst.
