An Ordinance to amend the Synod Membership Ordinance 1995.
The Synod of the Diocese of Sydney Ordains -
This Ordinance is the Synod Membership (Election of Parochial Representatives) Amendment Ordinance 2001.
2. Amendment of the Synod Membership Ordinance 1995
The Synod Membership Ordinance 1995 is amended as follows -
(a) in clause 12(2) the words "Vestry Meeting held" are deleted and the following matter is inserted instead -
"meeting held under clause 15 or 15A", and
(b) in clause 13(1) the words "Vestry Meeting held" are deleted and the following matter is inserted instead -
"meeting held under clause 15 or 15A", and
(c) in clause 14(2) the words "Vestry Meeting held" are deleted and the following matter is inserted instead -
"meeting held under clause 15 or 15A", and
(d) clause 15 is deleted and the following matter is inserted instead -
"When may Parochial Representatives be elected in single church Parochial Units?
15. In a Parochial Unit with one church, a person may be elected to be a Parochial Representative of the Parochial Unit for a Synod at a vestry meeting of the church convened under the Church Administration Ordinance 1990 and held at any time during the calendar year in which the first ordinary session of that Synod is to be convened or at any time thereafter.", and
(e) after clause 15 insert a new clause 15A as follows -
"When may Parochial Representatives be elected in multi-church Parochial Units?
15A. (1) In a Parochial Unit with more than one church, unless a direction is given under subclause 15A(2), a person may be elected to be a Parochial Representative of the Parochial Unit for a Synod at a vestry meeting of the principal church of the Parochial Unit convened under the Church Administration Ordinance 1990 and held at any time during the calendar year in which the first ordinary session of that Synod is to be convened or at any time thereafter.
(2) At the request of the parish council, the Regional Bishop of the Region in which the Parochial Unit is situated, acting on the advice of his Regional Council, may direct that a person may be elected to be a Parochial Representative of the Parochial Unit for a Synod at a combined annual vestry meeting or another vestry meeting of the Parochial Unit held in accordance with the Church Administration Ordinance 1990.
(3) On the request of the parish council of a Parish, the Regional Bishop acting on the advice of his Regional Council may, in giving a direction under subclause (2), also direct that the persons elected to be the Parochial Representatives must not be parishioners of the same church in terms of the Church Administration Ordinance 1990."
(f) in clause 17 the words "Vestry Meeting" are deleted and the word "meeting" is inserted instead, and
(g) in clause 20 the words "Vestry Meeting of the Parochial Unit" are deleted and the following matter is inserted instead -
"meeting of the Parochial Unit held under clause 15 or 15A", and
(h) in the Dictionary, the definition of "Vestry Meeting" is deleted on 2001
