Meetings
2. The Council met on 6 occasions in 1997 - 5 at the Meriden School, Strathfield and 1 at St Catherine's, Waverley. Each meeting began with a meal, generously provided by the schools.
3. A Planning Day was held on Saturday, 9 August 1997, at the Golden Grove Conference Centre, Newtown.
Appointment Task Forces
4. At its Planning Day, the Council appointed three Task Forces -
1) A Cross-Cultural Task Force
2) A Growth Area Task Force
3) A Women's Ministry Task Force
5. The task forces met throughout the remainder of 1997 and provided interim reports to the Council.
Exercise of Council Powers Under Ordinance
Ordinance Review
6. The Council's Ordinance Review Panel met throughout the year and considered various Ordinances promoted by parishes in the region. Reports were sent to the Standing Committee.
Parishes Amalgamation
7. The full Council amalgamated 4 parishes into 2. They were -
Haberfield with Five Dock
Ashbury with Summer Hill.
8. Two Parish Council constitutions were amended.
Vacancy Filled
9. The Rev John Wise resigned his parish for a hospital chaplaincy in another region. A vacancy was declared and was filled by the Rev Trevor Goodman-Jones, Rector of Enfield, from the same area deanery.
Grants for 1998
10. Consideration of the grants for 1998 was completed at the September meeting and indicated to applicants subject to Synod's allocation.
Grants Criteria
11. The Council at its August planning day began the process of considering a draft Grants Criteria paper. This continued throughout the year. It was approved in early 1998.
