An Ordinance to amend the Retirements Ordinance 1993.

The Synod of the Diocese of Sydney Ordains -

1. Name of Ordinance

This Ordinance is the Retirements Ordinance 1993 Amendment Ordinance 1999.

2. Amendment

The Retirements Ordinance 1993 is amended as follows -

(a) delete the words “parish, a provisional parish and an assisted provisional parish” in the definition of Parochial Unit in clause 2 and insert instead the words “parish or provisional parish”;

(b) delete the matter “, each of whom must be a member of the Synod” in paragraph 10(b);

(c) delete the words “member of the Synod” in paragraph 10(c) and insert instead the words “communicant member of the Anglican Church of Australia”;

(d) insert a new subclause 11(4) as follows -

“(4) A person who is proposed or nominated to be appointed as a lay member of the Board must prior to the person’s appointment make the following declaration-

‘I declare that I am a communicant member of the Anglican Church of Australia.’.”;

(e) delete the words “to be a member of the Synod or ceases” in paragraph 12(d);

(f) delete the words “member of Synod” in paragraph 12(e) and insert instead the words “communicant member of the Anglican Church of Australia”.
