Retirement Farewell for Archdeacon Ernie Carnaby
The Regional Dinner was chosen to farewell Ernie and Jan Carnaby. Consequently a number of special guests were invited to attend the dinner. Several speakers were invited to express appreciation of Ernie and Jan's ministry in former parishes and in the region. Tributes were paid to their warm personal ministries, their faithfulness, diligence and unwavering commitment to the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ. They were clearly much loved and held in high esteem. Bishop Davies presented Ernie with a gift on behalf of the region and added his personal comments expressing appreciation of Ernie as a valued colleague. Ernie responded on behalf of himself and Jan and in doing so demonstrated the very qualities attributed to him in the earlier speeches. The evening was attended by 248 people representing 54 parishes. It was pleasing to have 25 people representing other organisations share the time with us as well as special guests invited for the occasion of Archdeacon Ernie Carnaby's farewell.
This was held at 'Merroo' on 10-11th May. Those registering at the conference numbered 139, they represented 52 parishes (out of 64) and 92 stayed overnight. We were privileged to have Michael Cassidy of African Enterprise as our guest speaker and many appreciated his ministry and personal perspectives. The conference was a valuable time of sharing, meeting new people, and learning together.
As a means of encouraging and stimulating churches within the region, the Rev Stuart Robinson was engaged (part time) in 2003 to be available for parish consultations relating to evangelism and church growth. This arrangement was continued in 2004. Stuart's special gifts have been greatly appreciated by a number of parishes and the partnership with Evangelism Ministries has proved to be most valuable.
It is encouraging to note the new ministries that are being undertaken across the region. There appears to be a fresh entrepreneurial spirit as parishes explore new means of evangelistic outreach and church growth. The commencement of new church plants in the region is significant. Some new ministries seek financial assistance, while others are self-supporting from inception.

The Special Ministries Task Force supervises cross cultural matters including the regional ESL ministry which is conducted by Mrs Rosemary Anderson. During the year Mrs Anderson was granted special leave from mid May to mid December to go to PNG to serve with Wycliffe Bible Translators. During this time she worked one day per week gathering ESL resources. We are grateful to Mrs Pamela Riley for ensuring that our ESL ministry was cared for during Rosemary's absence.
