General Synod Relations Committee

        Terms of Reference

        1. To consider matters that could be promoted to the General Synod to encourage the promotion and protection of evangelical Anglicanism and the spread of the gospel throughout Australia.

        2. To examine canons passed by the General Synod and to make recommendations to the Standing Committee concerning the adoption or otherwise of such canons by the Synod of the Diocese of Sydney.

        3. To make recommendations to the Standing Committee on matters referred to the Diocese by the Standing Committee of the General Synod.

        4. To prepare draft canons etc dealing with matters which the Synod has asked its representatives to promote to the General Synod.

        5. To examine business to come before the General Synod and to report on that business to the Standing Committee and to the Sydney Representatives on General Synod.

        6.  To advise the Standing Committee generally on matters in connection with any canon of the General Synod.

        7. To consult with representatives of the General Synod and General Synod Standing Committee in respect to all matters affecting their relationship with our Diocese, including in relation to assessments and other financial matters.

        8. To authorise payments from Synod Fund 130 (Support of General Synod Representatives) to meet the costs of and incidental to General Synod Representatives attending sessions of the General Synod.

        9.    At least one-third of the members must be Standing Committee members.

        10. A member ceases to hold office if any of the circumstances set out in rule 7.1(2)(a) of the Schedule to the Synod Elections Ordinance 2000 arises.
         

        Chair

        11.  The Committee is to elect a chair from among its members, who is to hold office until the first Standing Committee meeting after the first session of each Synod.
         

        Quorum 

        12. 4 members (Meetings (Quorum, Attendance and Resolutions) Ordinance 2007), including at least one Standing Committee member.
         

        Administrative Arrangements 

        13. SDS provides staff and services, the Diocesan Secretary arranges the secretarial work for the Committee and the costs are met by the Synod.
         

        Retirement

        14. The members hold office at the pleasure of the Standing Committee but retire at the first Standing Committee meeting after the first session of each Synod.
